Robert Frost is one of the most popular and critically respected American poets of the twentieth century. “Birches” is one of Frost’s many famous poems, included in his third collection of poetry Mountain Interval that was published in 1916, only one year after he moved to Franconia, NH. “Birches” describes the surroundings of rural landscape and wildlife found in Franconia.

Henry David Thoreau - The Walden Woods Project

Henry David Thoreau, American author, philosopher, and naturalist, inspired generations of conservationists around the world, to protect our natural treasures, and it was trees such as the red maple in Walden Woods that inspired Thoreau.

Lee Family Plantation

Four generations of the Lee family lived at Stratford Hall, one of the great houses of American history, including the only two brother to sign the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, and Revolutionary War hero "Light Horse Harry" Lee and his son Civil War General Robert E. Lee. The Great House on the expansive grounds of Stratford Hall has a massive sugar maple located to the left of the house.

Alex Haley Museum and Interpretive Center

Alex Haley lived in Henning, Tennessee with his grandparents from 1921-1929. It is from Alex Haley’s home in Henning that American Heritage Trees worked with Haley’s cousin, Beverly Johnson, to collect seeds and cuttings from the pecan tree that fronts the property.
